Day Two - Frairie - Chasseneuil-sur-Bonnieure, .

Sunday was much noisier than Saturday, but everyone seemed to be having masses of fun.  The weather was still beautiful which, of course, makes it all so much better. The Los Cassanoialos were playing and the crowds were dancing and singing along.
These guys were fooling around on their stilts and proved that they had amazing balance.
The children were having a fantastic time
As were the older children and adults!
I timed my visit today especially to see the old cars, which were fascinating.

Details of the Citroen above are on the label below, which was put on the car just after I took the photo.
Below is a  Citroën Traction Avant or "Light 15".  This was the first (I think) front wheel drive car ever produced in large numbers and was built by the French manufacturer from 1934 to 1957. Very advanced for its day.
Without a doubt this is a Simca, the badge says so!  Simca (Société Industrielle de Mécanique et Carrosserie Automobile) was a French carmaker, originally founded in November 1934 by Fiat. See more about the history of Simca Here. There are a number of different models and I am really not sure which this one is.
This below is certainly a Renault.  After quite a lot of research, I suspect that this is a Renault NN (Renault 6CV) (1925-1929) CV is French for horsepower but the 6 in this case is merely a class rating for vehicle taxation purposes.See Here
and there were two of them - saloon and convertible!
A Peugeot 301 which is a mid-size four cylinder engined car produced by Peugeot between 1932 and 1936. See Here

Peugeot 202; production of this car ran between 1938 and 1942 and then, after a brief production run of 20 in early 1945, restarted in mid-1946. It was sold until 1949. See Here for more information.
This Panhard looks like it could do with some restoration, as quite a lot of rust was visible. Research tells me this is a Panhard Dyna Z 3, but I am not able to find any history at all about the model, other than the construction period appears to be between 1953 and 1959
Then there was this  Renault Caravelle 1959-1968 for more information see Here
Last but certainly not least was my favourite; this lovely Amilcar. I think this is a 1921 CC.  See Here.
Hope that you enjoyed the two days of fun in Chasseneuil; I certainly did!!

  1. Hi Diane - loved the pics of old cars, especially the Citroën Traction Avant - I seem to recall that there were quite a few of them in SA in the 70's but, I remember silver stripes along each side of the bonnet ... or am I confusing it with another car?

  2. Looks like a lot of fun. I especially like seeing the people on stilts as it's been so long since I've seen that. Enjoy :-)

  3. Graham there were a number of Light 15's in both Zimbabwe and S.Africa so I doubt if you are confusing them. The silver stripes may well have been an African touch. I cannot remember. My memory is not what it used to be I am afraid, no wonder I am struggling to remember the French words for things I learnt yesterday :-( Diane

  4. Joyful I have also not seen people on stilts for many moons. I was amazed how they were pretending to fall and got into such weird positions before just correcting their positions again. Excellent balance. Have a good weekend Diane

  7. Hiya Diane glad things appear to be okay on your blog with all the mess during the week. Another fun day out for you, and those cars are amazing. I love the convertible. How fun it would be to drive down a french lane with the wind in my hair in one of those. Very romantic :)

  9. Hi Dolly I lost a few comments but nothing more thank goodness. We had a Porsche 356 roadster in S.Africa and how I would love to be driving it here now! No regrets though as we sold it so we could afford to put money down on a house when we moved to the UK. We now have the French home as well. Diane

  10. Hi Kary, we both love my cherry jam but it really is better with 40% rhubarb. But this year no rhubarb so we can still enjoy the cherry jam. Take care. Diane

  27. Craig the only reason I have not been to Angouleme classic car meet is I have not wanted to go on my own. Once Nigel is here I am sure we will both be there for it. Diane

  29. Your old car photos are pretty nice. I like them but didn't recognize any of the names except Fiat.

Patty and I attended a hot rod show here in our hometown yesterday too. And we also went to a 40th reunion at the school where I used to teach Commercial Art and where she retired after working in Adult Education.

Panhard were taken over by Citroen but then Peugeot took over Citroen - It's like a great big automotive food chain in a way.
