What a busy day - Part 40

A quick trip to do some shopping this morning, then on my return, a change into my working clothes and into the garden. The large composter has now been emptied and most of the garden has had a good supply of the contents, well dug into the soil. Of course, the birds have lots to eat again; see yesterday’s blog. The compost in the two smaller composters, which was only partially decomposed, has now been turned over well and the mixture filled into the previously emptied large composter. Hopefully this will all be ready for next year.

Hah - I beat the rabbits to these few spears which popped up over night.

Tonight I will have a meal from the garden.  Steamed asparagus, served with a mix up of jerusalem artichoke (topinambour), sorrel and chopped chives.  I may just cheat and use some bought garlic (I did not grow any last year), to add a bit more flavour.  Perhaps I could even cheat a bit further and add a fried egg over the top.  No chickens (yet) in our garden.
Chives, with sorrel growing to the rear left .

This was really yummy, an experiment I may not have tried if I had not been on my own. OK, so I cheated further with a slice of brioche!

  1. I recently made mini brioches for our dinner, and my gents ate every one. I applaud your adding one to your lovely egg meal.

Your pictures are beautiful! I'm so glad you found me, and I'll be visiting here often.

  3. Yummy. Sounds like a good meal for one. I've been eating the frozen meals lately. Just bought me some fresh veggies and fruit. Hope you have a good weekend and enjoy your gardens.

  5. Oh yummy!! Nothing better than being able to eat it straight out of the garden. I am glad you beat the rabbits to it. LOL!!

  6. Hi Joan, I am also glad I beat the rabbits! I am looking forward to the arrival of the netting so I can get my fence up. I can then get everything else planted out. My neighbour is complaining that they are eating all her lettuce and her strawberry plants! Her garden is very large so not sure what they are going to do. They are farmers and have many sheep as well. Diane

  7. What a wonderful blog... I loved growing asparagus. When their little heads poked out of the soil you knew it was spring. Your life in France looks wonderful!! I had a friend who kept bunnies away with twirly metal whirly gigs... the bolts of light freaked them out!!!

  8. lostpastremembered - Welcome to my blog. The twirly metal sounds like a good idea. I plan to fence the veg garden, but I will certainly try this in the herb garden. The rabbits love parsley!! LOL

  9. This sounds like a proper breakfast to me :-). I would relish having asparagus in my garden. We, alas, have deer instead and they eat everything in site. I hope you are having a wonderful day. Blessings...Mary

  10. Hi Mary, my internet is on a go slow and the laptop has just almost taken a trip out of the window!! We also have a lot of deer and wild pig around but the property is completly fenced and hedged so they stay out of my way. The fencing though is not small enough for the rabbits so that means yet another fence!
    Bonne journée

  12. Hi Lynda, This is their third year and they just get thicker and thicker. I have to keep them under control! The garlic chives do not grow as well sadly though they are hanging in there.
