A Walk on the Wild Side - Part 43

Yesterday afternoon, I took a walk to the next hamlet and thought that you may enjoy some of the many sights that I saw along the way. Close ups were well nigh impossible, as the wind was blowing everything all over the place.  Also the stinging nettles did not encourage me to move in too close!  I really must buy a book on wild flowers and grasses of Europe, but there is little point while I am here, as they are all in French!!

A wild hyacinth?

These I think are wild violets.

There are many types of buttercups, but I think that this is what these are. The lesser celandine and buttercups are quite similar.

These two were on the same plant, (bluebell not yet in flower), the lower one was twice as big as the one above with slightly different markings. I have to say I was happy to keep away from the tail end of both of them!!

Last, but certainly not least, I came across this happy pair of common wall lizards basking in the sun.

  1. The spring flowers are such a cheerful variety of colors! Our daffodils have come and gone, and our fruit trees are now flowering. It's a beautiful season, and your flower pictures capture it well.

  2. Hi Diane
Thanks for your advice, I will try the bottles out and watch out for those stakes!

What a lovely walk you had with all those amazing plants. I think the one you thought might be a wild hyacinth is a wild rare orchid that is native to these parts. We have a nature walk near us and it is on their sign post.

    Enjoy the sunshine again today.

  3. Hi Marjie, it is amazing how all the flowers change with the seasons, it certainly adds variety. I am looking forward to all the brown ferns turning green now in the woodland areas.

Hi Katie, that is interesting that it may be a wild orchid, even more now do I want to buy that book!

Yesterdays forecast said rain but as you say the sun is out and not a cloud in the sky. I wish the wire netting would arrive so I can plant without fear of the rabbits!

Glad to hear that you are going to put something on the canes, actimel bottles worked well for me with insulation tape holding them in place. I still have last years collection so do not need to worry again this year. Diane

Hope you both have a good day.

  4. Oh I do like those lizards Diane!! A nice variety today. It sure looks like spring is in. Someone else was saying they had snow over the weekend and I cannot believe it so late in the year.

  5. Hi Joan, There were lizards everywhere this morning but the sky has just turned black and the temperature has dropped - not a lizard in sight! Thunder around so it looks like I will have to unplug everything. Diane
