Around and About - A few more wells

Another blog on the subject of my fascination with old wells; here are a few more photos taken over the past year. I apologise for the fact that some of the photos will not enlarge; it appears to be a Google thing that I cannot overcome - suggestions welcome!!
Seen at the side of the road just outside Chasseneuil-sur-Bonnieure.

at Jayat; oh if only it could speak!!

at Chevalere, as are the next two photos

The marigolds in the trough were sadly almost over when I took this photo

There was some restoration work going on around here, so maybe the well will also undergo some improvement. It's obviously had a hard life!

at La Rochette

also at La Rochette, with the small chateau in the background.

La Rochette Chateau was built in the late sixteenth century. Its last private owner sold it to the town commune in 1946.  The commune then demolished the outbuildings and refurbished the chateau for use as the town hall. I understand it also has a large ballroom with a glass floor.   The chateau was registered as a historic monument on 3 July 1992

To all my blogging friends who celebrate Thanksgiving, I wish you all the best, have a happy day.

Wells

You will notice that I have been playing with the html a little, so that I now have drop-down menus for both 'archives' and 'labels'.  The old menus were taking up too much room, so I though  this was a far better idea, and the re-arrangement left more space for anything else I might want to add into the side column.  I hope this meets with approval :-)

There are a number of very old wells around France.  Some I am sure are still in use, but there are many that look as if they have not been touched for years.  I have a strange fascination for them and have taken many photographs.  Here are a few  from  the past year.
Not far from Vitrac St Vincent

This beautifully preserved well is in the village "square" of Vitrac St Vincent outside the Mairie (above and below).

I took this picture through  a house gateway in Chasseneuil. I am not sure what the pillar is in front of the well, but interesting nonetheless !

This one, in the middle of a field, looked rather lost!  I took this while out cycling and did not make a note of where it was!

Yet another garden example, taken while out cycling; again, location not recorded!

Another one looking a bit sad, in the middle of a field. Yes, I remembered to make a note  of the location; in the small village of Le Mas.

Finally, this one in the small village of Le Pardelieri  has an owner who obviously cared enough about it to put a pot of flowers on the side..  This little village had several wells around the place, but they will keep for a later post.

A day off! - Part 53

I had a lazy day yesterday! I took everything slowly in the morning and then at 12h30 I went to friends down the road for lunch. Another couple, who I had not met before, joined us and proved to be great fun, so "a good time was had by all"!! I only arrived home at 17h30 and as it was cool, windy and not very pleasant outside, I decided that after a phone call to Nigel I would go to bed with a good book. Seldom do I do so little in a day, but for once I guess it did not do me any harm!

The following photos are some taken a couple of days ago in the village of Chasseneuil sur Bonnieure. Just click on the pictures for the full size photo.

Above and below - the village church, which has just been restored to its present state.
Someone's 'little' home in the back streets.
Ye old village well outside number 10. Nope not Downing Street, this is the Place de l'Eglise.
The Resistance Memorial – In the next week or so I will do an article on this.

The village of Montemboeuf - Part 49

Rather than put you all through the agony of yesterday's tooth drama, I thought some pictures were a better idea. I return for yet more work on my tooth on the 27th and then the possibility of a crown is more than likely. Watch this space!

I was early for my appointment and walking around the little village, I thought some of these features were worth a photo. Click on the pictures for larger viewing.

The church with the war memorial in front.
The church from the  front showing the clock tower.
An interesting cafe with unusual decor.
I just thought this was an interesting door way!

This doorway was dated 1835.
and this barn doorway was  dated 1828.

No visible date on this well, but my guess is that it has been around for sometime.
