Apple Pork Chops - Part 80

APPLE PORK CHOPS (Easy)

4 to 6 pork chops
2 apples, thinly sliced and dipped in a little lemon juice to prevent discolouring.
I onion cut in 1/2 and sliced
1 cup apple juice or cider
Cinnamon
Sugar

Brown the pork chops in a pan with a little oil, remove and place in an oven proof dish.
Lightly cook the onion in the same pan with the juices from the chops. Remove and place over the chops with the sliced apple.
Sprinkle with a little sugar and cinnamon. Pour the cider or juice over the top.

Cover and bake at 180 degrees C  for 1 hour. Take off cover and bake 15 more minutes.

N.B. I cooked this early as I did not want to cook it at the last minute when I had visitors arriving at an unknown time.
I cooked it for an hour and then switched off the oven and left it in the oven. When we wanted to eat I just switched the oven back on and as soon as I saw it was bubbling I took the lid off for 10 minutes.  It was delicious and the pork just fell off the bone.

Serve with vegetables of your choice.

  1. What a lovely dish and you very cleverly timed it so you would not have to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Grat.

  2. This looks and sounds delish. You are obviously a good cook. Want a job at Grand Canyon? I am capable, but don't really like to cook. Yet this seems pretty easy.

  6. Gaelyn this is so easy anyone could cook it. The offer of a job at the Grand Canyon is very tempting, but I suspect I would not have a very happy husband. Let me work on it:) Diane

  11. Delicious!! Have to try this one. One of my favourites is where you cook the chops then mak a light curry sauce with tinned pineapples, put the chops back in to cook and serve it on rice. A great combination and easy to make too.

  12. Normally do my own concoctions in regards to food (and most other things as well), but like the combination of apple and apple juice paired with the pork. Also the fact that you left in in the oven for later. Great idea for busy days. So will add your recipe to my the recipe file.

  13. Hi Joan, that sounds really nice with a curry sauce and pineapple, it also made me think it would be nice with a sweet and sour sauce. Thanks for the ideas. Diane

  14. Hi Vera, I also usually do my own thing, but this worked out really well, plus the wait in the oven produced excellent results. Diane
