Quadruplets!

Quadruplets (I think) were born yesterday, 24 June 2012 to our pair of Black Redstarts (Phoenicurus ochruros).  Mother and children well at the time of going to print!
Updates will follow as and when I can get them without upsetting the family.

the only time I've been able to photograph fledglings were some Paradise Flycatchers who nested outside my back door ...

  2. How fun to have a nest of babies. We've watched cardinals in their nest as they matured. An experience you'll never forget.

  4. Graham this nest is in a small room outside where we keep the gardening tools, no door. The nest is only waist high and wedged between a broom and the wall!! Obviously the broom is now not unavailable. They are small birds, grey, with a red/brown tail, not madly interesting but lots of character. We had to block off the top of the door of our barn, they could get to the new insulation we had put in, it was where I had done the new ceiling last year. They made such a mess dropping the stuff all over the place. If they had only just taken what they needed.... Diane

  23. Oh Diane what exciting news. It will be wonderful to watch them grow.

I do hope the neighbours' cat stays away, are you able to fence the nest off in anyway? Difficult I know.

So, you have "babies" to watch out for too now :)

  34. How exciting! I'm not familiar with this bird and will check it out. You will have fun watching their progress! Birds are amazing. I have the Audubon Society app on my iphone and was in the background playing the bird sounds this morning. When I played the cardinal, 2 came to a nearby tree and echoed the sound from my phone. Looking forward to your updates!
