Last Friday, we had the pleasure of meeting blogger Kerry and her husband Roger. They were only staying here in France for a week, taking a short, but active, break.
We invited them for evening drinks and snacks on this, their last full day before making the drive home; we just hit it off immediately and talked and talked, until we suddenly realised it was almost 23h00 (!) and they had a long drive ahead of them. They are such lovely people, and I am glad that they have a local place to stay, whenever they can make a visit; we hope we will get the chance to meet up again in the not too distant future. We seem to have a lot in common and they love France and cycling. Please take a look at Kerry's blog HERE if you love crafts; she makes the most beautiful cards. Also you might be lucky and get a bit of news about France there as well.

Roger and Kerry. Sorry Kerry, in the other photo you were smiling beautifully but the flash caught your glasses quite badly! |

Yesterday we went to a "repas", which translates pretty much as a meal. This was a lunch at St Adjutory, organised by the leisure group of which we are members. We understood that just over 80 people were expected at the village's Community Hall and arrival time was 12h00. The cost was a modest €12 each, which included food, wine and of course, great company. The menu offered six courses, as you can see below, but I forgot to take photos of the first 3 courses!! First course was a glass of kir - sweet wine. Next up was the asparagus soup - delicious, and in unlimited quantity; I think we all had second helpings! The filet de lieu was quite a large piece of fish, served with a moulded circular "cake" (the word ecaille literally means "shell") and tomato sauce; the cake seemed to comprise tiny slivers of cucumber in a courgette mixture; it was delicious.
The main course of tender pork fillet cooked in a mustard sauce, with a stuffed potato and vegetables, at which point I remembered my camera ........
This was followed by cheese and salad and of course in France there is always a constant supply of crusty French bread, to eat as and when you want.
Raspberry mousse followed this, and the meal finished with coffee.
Nigel took this photo of my neighbour and me at the meal; I cannot remember now what caused quite this much laughter, but at this point it was late afternoon and we were definitely having a good time!! They organise these lunches every 3 months, so we had better get into training!
Note that the lovely earrings and necklace that I am wearing here were made by another blogger friend Jean. She has a number of blogs, but the one with the jewellery is HERE while her mostly French blog is HERE
As always click on photos to enlarge.

Hello Diane:
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful time you seem to be having, both with your new blogger friends and at the splendid lunch organised in the village. This seems such a good way of fostering a community spirit and we are sure that you are now looking forward to the next time.
Jane and Lance we never realised that retirement would be so 'busy', and Nigel was wondering what he was going to do all day after giving up work!!
ReplyDeletePeople always used to ask me what I did all day when I was on my own here before Nigel arrived. I spent most of my time doing restoration and working in the garden. Now the restoration is basically finished, I have more time to enjoy the countryside. Diane
How great you got to meet some blogger friends. I concur with Jane and Lance that the community meal is a great way to meet others. The meal also look fantastic.
ReplyDeleteYou've been blogger busy. How nice to meet up and it does feel like you're old friends. Love the jewelry. And that meal looks delish.
ReplyDeleteJoyful we are so happy that we have joined this leisure group, we are really enjoying their company and we have had a lot of fun with them. Take care Diane
ReplyDeleteGaelyn, it is amazing how all the bloggers I have met, I feel like I have known them for years. The meal was good, the wine flowed and a good time was had by all :-) Diane
ReplyDeleteHow nice to meet up with a fellow blogger and to get on so well. Your meal looks and sounds delicious what a great way to spend and afternoon.
ReplyDeleteEllie they were such lovely people, I think we could have talked all night if had of had the time :)
ReplyDeleteYes a great way to spend a Tuesday afternoon, being retired has its advantages! Diane
That meal looks like amazing value. It just shows how much profit a restaurant makes.
ReplyDeletecheshire wife how right you are. There are a few restaurants around here that do a meal like that at lunchtime for between €11 and €12 with wine included!!! We certainly never found anything like that in the UK. Diane
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane, we had a great time with you both. We were amazed how quickly the evening went. Hope to meet up again soon. Lovely meal too - one day we will enjoy a repas too x
ReplyDeleteKerry it was a pleasure and we so enjoyed meeting you. Next time you are here if there is a Repas on perhaps you could join us. More expensive though for non-members, as membership is only €12 per year it is almost worth joining. You pay for the membership in the first meal!!! Keep well Diane x
ReplyDeleteIt is always good fun meeting blogger friends. You certainly seem to click with these two.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gret idea the community meal. It looked delicious. There is nothing better than crusty French Bread.
I've just finished reading about your family's incredible journey from Bath to Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. It fascinated me, and I just wanted to thank you for posting it. I can't imagine doing such a drive - happy to be an armchair traveler with you.
ReplyDeleteP.S. found you via Tish Jett's blog.
Wow, what a great meal. Now the Charente is a wonderful place to live. If I lived there I would definitely be a member of the leisure club, also the walking club. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThe meal looked amazing and sounds like you had a great time. Also it was so nice that you were able to meet some fellow bloggers.
ReplyDeletediane B it was fun meeting Kerry and Roger, we hope that it won't be long before we get another chance to meet up with them. The Repas is always good and lots of fun. Diane
ReplyDeleteSewingLibrarian thanks so much for the comment , I am delighted that you enjoyed the ride :) I am slowly writing the story of my life on the other blog, so the trip will come into that as well. Thanks for taking time out to read it. Diane

ReplyDeleteAll that delicious food for just 12 euros + a lot of fun and great company?! Amazing !!! I'll be meeting up with Jean in June when we're both in France. First meeting after being blogger friends for 3 years! I'm really looking forward to it. Any chance of meeting you at Susan and Simon's party in Preuilly? :)
ReplyDeleteLadybird we are hoping to make it to Susan and Simons, but Nigel's father has a 91st birthday in the UK at the end of May so I am not certain where we will be. It would be great to meet everyone in one place. We have the date loud and clear on our calendar just a case of making plans. Diane
ReplyDeleteDiane you make smile!
ReplyDeleteIt is truly wonderful to to see haw much fun you're having in France and well you seem settled!
Meeting blogger friends is truly a must since obviously we wish to meet when we share something in common, so joining up is bound to success and a wish to do it again!

ReplyDeleteLiesl the Repas is a great afternoon out. Lots of good company, food and booze:) Take care Diane
A bientôt.
It's always fun to spend time with other bloggers. The lunch you had looked amazing and that mousse has me drooling.
