I was hanging out some washing early on this quiet Sunday morning, when I heard a strange noise in the sky!! I looked around, but could see nothing, and it certainly was not a bird! The noise continued and suddenly, above the local farm buildings, appeared a powered hang glider, followed by another one and yet another! I think there were 5 I saw in all. They circled around our area for a while, then headed off, back to wherever they came from!
Normal service will be resumed ASAP; we are frantically painting 3 new rooms upstairs in the barn; the new timber floor finish will be laid next week - post on this will follow.

We have a powered hang gliders field opposite to us, and when they are flying I am forever anxious in case one falls out of the sky as they do look so fragile, especially when the motor on one of them does a hiccough! Hope you have loads of energy to get that painting finished, then you can come and paint our Half Barn for us!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm Vera we will think about coming to help you out. At the moment we have found all sort of muscles that we never knew we had! Painting, rubbing down and dust, it never seems to stop. Take care Diane
DeleteHello Diane:
ReplyDeletewe love to see hang gliders in the air. Just like big colourful birds. But, as for ever trying this out for ourselves, oh no!
You sound to have a lot of work going on in the house. We shall be so interested to see the finished results!
Jane and Lance Hopefully it will not be long now before all is ready and I can do a post on the extra rooms. As for the hang gliding, I agree they are welcome to it.Diane
Deletecan't wait to see the pics of it!
ReplyDeleteThe rooms now are nearly there, hopefully we will soon move in :-) Diane
DeleteI've seen on of these hang gliders but never 5 at one time. It lookslike they had a great day for it!!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing your future posts with your handiwork :))
Ellie I would imagine it was a perfect day for hang gliding. You will see the results of the handiwork soon I hope. Diane
DeleteWay cool to look up and find those gliders.
ReplyDeleteSam
Sam I am so glad that I did not miss them, the washing being ready was just at the right time ;-) Diane
DeleteWhat a lovely and colourful start to the day!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, we were both intrigued watching them. Diane
DeleteI have never heard of powered hang gliders. Sounds like more noise pollution to me. You sure sound busy, I wish I could be bothered to get out the paint brushes, we need it.
ReplyDeletediane this was hard work painting under pressure, a lot to do and only three days to do it in!! Hopefully the results will be worth it ;-) Diane
DeleteWhat wonderful pictures. There is a lovely nse of freedom in them. These people are lucky.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with painting the rooms. I am sure hard work will be worth it!!
Red
Red I am certain it will be worthwhile, the extra space will make a huge difference to us. Diane
DeleteIt sounds like you wish you were up there with them !!
ReplyDeleteJean being up there is one thing, coming down is quite another!!! Diane
DeleteHang gliding looks so free and liberating -- but I would never dare myself! Must have been an amazing sight to see 51! Best of luck with your new floors -- I'm looking forward to the pictures. Thanks for all your comments to my blog while I've been so unable to keep up with commenting and reading myself. Much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThe Broad I know how hard it is commenting at times, you struggled with problems and still managed to keep us up to date. Good to hear from you Diane
Deletehehe ... I'll leave hang-gliding to more adventurous souls - good luck with your painting - a task I dislike and cannot do without making an unholy mess of it ...
ReplyDeleteGraham I would not mind going up but I would not appreciate coming down, better to stay on terra firma! We do not mind painting, but this was under pressure, not good. Three days to do the base coat and two coats of paint on 3 rooms two with very high ceilings. Nigel has a foot and balance problem so everything beyond his reach is my job! We ache all over! Diane
DeleteWith that beautiful blue sky, they must have had a wonderful bird's eye view of your home. Good luck with your work...will enjoy seeing the results.
ReplyDeleteIt was the perfect day for hang gliding I would imagine. Thanks for the good wishes. Diane
DeleteThey look wonderful....but I'm not going up! Too frightened of coming down....
ReplyDeleteFly I could not agree more, coming down is a whole different story!! Diane
Deletewow...looks so fun! especially against that beautiful blue sky.
ReplyDeletegood luck with your painting..have fun!
Annmarie Pipa there was no fun attached to this painting, too much pressure to get it done quickly!! Sure that the hang gliders were having great fun though :-) Thanks for the visit and the comment Diane
DeleteGreat photos Diane, floating in the sky like that looks so relaxing. What a beautiful blue sky. I love the new header photo too x
ReplyDeleteThanks Kerry, I am sure that they were relaxed floating around up there, the coming back down would be my problem!! Diane xx
DeleteNew rooms are always exciting, and I'll bet you'll be pleased when the flooring is finished. It must feel great to finally be making real progress on getting your house and barn just as you want them.
ReplyDeleteOnce or twice a year hot air balloons fly over our house, and it's always entertaining. I love your pictures of the hang gliders; they must have been a nice change of pace.
Marjie at the end of all this I should have a room that is all mine :-) I can sew, paint, and do my own thing without having to put everything away each time. Bliss.
DeleteWe were lucky to see the hang gliders as we have been shut inside painting flat out over the past few days. It was a good job I had to hang the washing out :-) Diane
We have those guys all over our bay with surf skiis and parachutes too. We also have painting on our agenda - I have two years of renovations before putting the house on the market.
ReplyDeleteLeon
Where do you think you will move to if the house goes on the market? I presume something smaller near Melbourne or maybe I am completely wrong. I think your ideal would be 6 months in France and 6 months in Ozz, I know I would be more than happy with that, the problem is the expense!! Diane
DeletePeople are terribly brave to do this... what amazing shots!!!
ReplyDeletelostpastremembered I have to agree, going up is one thing, coming down is quite another!! Diane
DeleteHi Diane, thank for sharing the hang gliders. Excellent click, your pictures is very well taken.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your painting and have fun. Waiting patiently to see your new room pictures.
Have a nice week ahead, take care.
Amelia glad you liked this photos, something quite different form my normal posts :-) Take care Diane
DeleteExciting. I love your header photograph and frame.
ReplyDeleteGaynor I am glad that you like it, I have still not really made up my mind! It is different anyway. Keep well Diane
DeleteVery cool! I would like to try this one day... :-)
ReplyDeleteJM I would love to go up, but the thought of coming back down would stop me dead in my tracks :-) Diane
DeleteI hear it is a good time of the year for this activity, something to do with the thermals, fun to see them over your garden. Good to hear the work is going well on the house.
ReplyDeleteLinda I am glad that we managed to see them, first time ever here for us. I have been up painting beams all day today...... Will get there soon I hope. Take care Diane
Deletefun to see, and would love to do that one day :-_
ReplyDeleteRebecca you are braver than me. I would be happy to go up but once there I would not want to come back down!! Diane
DeleteHahaha!
ReplyDeleteA new species of dragonfly?!!
Nice to see them fly over one's head but the engine must be noisy!
I hope you feel a lot better these days!
Many thanks for your kind words along my articles!
Keep well, cheers!
XXXX
Noushka they were not really that noisy but certainly loud enough that I was searching for what was making the noise in the sky - large dragon flies LOL. I am still not feeling 100% but getting there I hope! Have a great weekend Diane
DeleteWhat a surprise to see them there. We see some of those when we are on the beach in Spain in the summer. The colors are always nice and bright.
ReplyDeleteRiet I have never seen them here before in the 7 years we have been here but maybe I have never looked up at the right time! Enjoy your weekend Diane
DeleteI get dizzy just looking up at that sort of thing. I have trouble standing on a chair!
ReplyDeleteHow I wish I could "zip" down there to help you out with the painting, but Roxy and Mario do not have passports and I know Nigel is allergic!!! Bon fin de semaine X
Dolly you are like Nigel he hates heights, lucky for him it does not worry me in the slightest. As for the hang gliders, going up would not worry me in the least, I would just have to stay up there as I would not fancy coming back down!! You must be getting very excited about Uni at this stage, have a fantastic weekend. Diane xx
DeleteThere is never a dull moment in your life :-). The photos are fantastic. I hope the painting is going well and that you are feeling better. Have a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteMary, people ask me what do I do all day..... Nigel said today I am the busiest person he has ever known, I tire him out LOL. As you say never a dull moment. Have a great weekend Diane
DeleteWhoa, that's amazing! I would love to see that - we have airshows and a lot of pilots flying over our house, especially during the summer. I might even learn how to fly one! :)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend! ^^
Bou Shin, I would have loved to have learnt to fly but I am not so sure about the hang gliders!! Have a good weekend. Diane
DeleteI have watched an air show (small planes) but not not this one, must be fun. I can never experience this as heights is not my friend lol.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend Diane!
Chubskulit I don't mind heights but the coming back down is a problem for me!! Have a good weekend. Diane
DeleteThat's cool seeing gliders.
ReplyDeleteChristine these were not actually gliders as the were powered and made a noise!! Take care Diane
DeleteNow that is interesting..imagining doing that..If I wasn't so afraid of heights, I might try..haha..Hope all is well with you..weather is changing and I am not looking forward to it..but such is life...
ReplyDeleteHave a happy weekend..xoCarolyn
Carolyn I would love to go up but as I have said previously it is the coming back down that bothers me!! Take care, Diane x
DeleteHi Diane ... What fun to see the gliders ... and gosh you are busy - I hope you're looking after yourself at the same time!! Keep well - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary it has been chaos what with the garden and the builders, and need I add the dust has not dome my cough one bit of good!! Take care Diane
