On Wednesday, we were fortunate participants at a great bloggers gathering. Many of my followers will have already read about this on other blogs, but for those of you who have not, here is "our version"! The idea for the event came about when Martine, from Wishing I were in France contacted Susan from Days on the Claise; Martine said that she would be in the region for a short time on holiday, and if possible, she would love to meet up with a few of the bloggers in the area. Susan generously offered to host a party, and with Simon's help, the result was amazing. There were 16 adults and one child there, and what a great time we all had! It is amazing that few of us had had much previous contact, but it felt as if we had all known each other for years and there was just masses to catch up with. My personal regret was, that because there were so many of us, I did not get long enough to talk to everyone for long enough!
|
This is the 'official' group photograph, skilfully taken by Simon on timer, so he was in the photo as well. |
We were a very international group and starting from the back row, left to right are Mats (Sweden), Simon (Anglo/Australian), Charles-Henri (France), Martine (Belgium), Gaynor (Wales), Antoinette (Dutch/American), Ken (USA), directly in front of Ken, Caroline (Belgium), Niall (Scotland), Nigel (England), Diane (Rhodesia/South Africa/UK), Florence and Alexander (Belgium) with the front row (seated/kneeling) Tim (England), Susan our host (Australia), Walt (USA), Vera (Sweden).
Susan kindly offered us a bed overnight, as we had the longest distance to travel; this was fantastic as it meant we could enjoy the company, have a drink and relax without worrying that we had more than a 2 hour drive home afterwards. The food was wonderful and everyone supplied a dish, so it meant that the culinary effort was spread.
|
I should have stood a bit further back - there was a large joint of beef off to the right and two yummy chickens on the left. For the full panorama, take a look at the photo on Ken's blog! |
|
Martine and Ken catching up with some news. |
|
Antoinette, Niall, Martine and Walt. |
|
I have no idea what Walt was up to with his glass of wine here that caused all the laughter. |
|
Wow, just look at those desserts, yum yum. I might add that I ate far too much, but how could you not try a bit of everything?

We really had a fantastic day and it was thrilling to meet so many bloggers, all on the same day. Thanks Martine for the suggestion, and a big thanks to Susan and Simon for arranging it all, and of course for having us to stay overnight
For those who would like to read some of the other blogs that I have not linked to above, here they are :-
Susan and Simon run a tourism business, which provides stylish guided tours of the Loire region; see their business site HERE.

Thanks for sharing the photos. I saw a few on Ken's blog, too. It's nice to see what everyone looks like, after hearing so much about them or seeing their name on comments in various blogs. I now realize I was mixing chm up with a blogger I follow with similar initials. Anyway...looks like a good time was had by all!
ReplyDeleteWow ... that was indeed a great gathering of Bloggers - I wonder if there's a Guinness record for this type of meeting?
ReplyDeleteHow fun. It's so wonderful to meet other bloggers and to be able to visit with them in person. Most often they are just as you expected them to be and just like their blog. Once in a while I've met someone who was different than I had thought.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and thanks for taking us along Diane. I just got back from a blogger party and we had a splendid time too.
Sam
wow, what a nice get together, wonderful idea from my compatriots !

ReplyDeleteYour right Diane "What a blogging party" !! how wonderful that you got to meet up with all these bloggers. The feast looks fantastic too.
ReplyDeleteGreat for you that Susan and Simon put you up for the night , you could relax and enjoy more of the evening.
I see you mentioned Gaynor, I think it was this Gaynor that left a lovely message on my blog the other day.. she has been reading my blog for a while but not always commenting, which is fine.
Well done to Martine to suggest this fab get together ...Walt has already told me he met you and Nigel, I left a message for him on facebook. I haven't met him, but Leesa from Paris has, and Barbara from Paris has met Susan and Simon I think. Small world is blogging. :-) xx anne
What a wonderful time you had - wish I could have been there - so many of my friends in one place at the same time !!
ReplyDeleteIt seems a shame that you came all the way to withing spitting distance of our house but we didn't meet ..... c'est la vie !!
That does look like a great time. I always think I should do the same here... there are so many of us around the NYC area... would be fun to put it all together!
ReplyDeleteHello Diane:
ReplyDeleteWell, each version that we have read seems to match each other for enthusiasm so we have definitely come to the conclusion that a really good time was enjoyed by all. Such a strange experience meeting bloggers in the real world but, one just knows, and here is living proof, that all will be great fun when it happens.
Hi Diane! What a fabulous time you must of had meeting such a large group of fellow bloggers! Gorgeous photos:) Hope you are keeping well!

ReplyDeleteAnne as you say it is a small world, so many bloggers in one place and not from a big town or city, amazing.
ReplyDeleteWe were so grateful to Susan for the offer of staying over, we were not looking forward to the drive home afterwards. It just made all the difference to our fun day. Diane xx
Oh how I love meeting fellow bloggers and reading about others who have met!! Lovely photos of the gathering. So often I forget to take many pictures, and I know how you feel not wanting to miss any time visiting with everyone!
ReplyDeleteJean we will meet again some time. There is so much to see in that area and we only had a very small taste of it on our return trip. Martine was so thrilled to meet you and see your house. It was a great event but a pity you missed it, also Leon and Sue. Diane
ReplyDeletelostpastremembered I can highly recommend a gathering like that. You should try to arrange one locally. We had lots of fun but it was all too short. Diane
ReplyDeleteJane and Lance, I find it hard to believe what a whole new world has opened up to us through blogging. I have met several bloggers now, but this party was very special and it was all thanks to Martine ans Susan that it happened. We had a really fun day. Diane
ReplyDeleteAnne, fabulous is the right word, we had a really great time and we were so happy to be invited to join in. Diane
ReplyDeleteI have read about this gathering on Gaynor's blog. The food looks superb and it looks as if you had a fantastic time together.
ReplyDeleteLyndsey, I know the feeling, you are having such a great time or enjoying the food that the camera gets forgotten temporarily :-) Diane
ReplyDeletecheshire wife, I think if you read French blogs you may get many different versions of this get together but I think we all agree we had a great time. Thanks for the comment. Diane

Blessings
Kristy
You are so lucky to have met so many bloggers from so many different parts of the world. It looks like everybody enjoyed themselves.
ReplyDeleteWow what a get together from so many different countries. That must have taken some organisation. I went to one in Sydney some years ago. It is great how you instantly feel like old friends.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to meet the both of you, Diane, after all this time! I have no idea what I was doing with the wine glass at that moment... perhaps some feat of balancing skill... nah. :)
ReplyDeleteWasn't it a fantastic afternoon?
ReplyDeleteWe enjoyed meeting you and i'm sure there will be opportunities in the future to continue of conversations.
In the meantime the conversations are digital ...
Best wishes to you and Nigel and I hope you enjoyed your return visit to Angles. I could live there ...

ReplyDeleteKristy, yep more fun and a great day. We really enjoyed it. Take care Diane
ReplyDeleteWords Of Deliciousness we also thought we were lucky and it was so good to be invited to the party. We loved every moment of it. Diane
ReplyDeleteWalt judging by the number of empty bottles we helped Susan and Simon clear away, I could believe that you were capable of anything by the time that was taken LOL. It was great fun and we loved meeting everyone. Diane
ReplyDeleteGaynor it was really great to meet you and yes I am sure that we will catch up again in the not too distant future.
ReplyDeleteThere are mseveral places similar to Angles that I look at and think how beautiful they are, but living there would be quite different. Too many hills to cycle on and too many tourists. I love our quiet little hamlet and we can chose to cycle hills or fairly flat when we want to.
Take care and we will keep in touch until we meet up again. Diane & Nigel
You should try Osso Bucco, but probably not the weather for it right now for you!
ReplyDeleteSo good to hear about your blogger get together! Glad you all had a good time!
Wonderful friendly meeting!

Enjoy your WE, Diane!

ReplyDeleteYummy! The food looks so delicious! Glad to see that you had an amazing time with other bloggers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by Nilambur and the comments. I don't often go to Nilambur and so I don't have many more photos to post and just to keep it alive I am doing occasional postings. I am working on the Cruise Pictures mostly these days and I am planing to make it more informational blog than a picture blog.
Thanks again for coming by!
Diane, such a grand event! amazing to be able to get that many people together. I've had the opportunity to meetup with several bloggers over the years, and it was always as though we had known one another for an extended period.. a whole new experience for us. Ain't life grand? ;)

ReplyDeleteYou must have a lot of fun in this blogger gathering. I also going to join a blogger gathering soon..
ReplyDeleteNow that's the way to do it, looks like you all had a fantastic day. I know I'm not alone in thinking that most bloggers are the digital equivalent of pen pals so we tend to get on well when we do meet face to face.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great pleasure to see so many of my favourite blogger friends. Thank you for sharing the supe photos. Louise
ReplyDeletewhat a fantastic gathering with bloggers all over!! and a nice spread of desserts there! i'm also looking forward to a small gathering with a few bloggers here next month.

Sonia it was great meeting so many people all in one, the only problem was I did not have enough time to speak to each person :( Diane
ReplyDeleteFroggy it was a fantastic day and Susan really got it all together, she did a great job. You were the second blogger I ever met and I was surprised how we felt that we had known each other for ages, it still surprises me even now I have met quite a lot. ReplyDeleteHilary it was such a great idea of Martine's, and Susan taking up the job of being host was the final touch. It really is a great way to meet up if you can organise something like that over there, I recommend it.
ReplyDeleteI am happy to give some guidance in this area of what to see, but I would probably have to go through my own blog to remind myself LOL.
Take care Diane
Diane B sorry I missed an answer to you but you are right it was a great international get together. My sister in law is in Sydney but she doesn't have a public blog. As you say it is just instant friendship. Keep well Diane
ReplyDeleteJM it was a great gathering with so many languages being spoken but we all shared so much. Diane
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous party - A great idea and the food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat fun!!! I am so glad you had a great time meeting so many bloggers.
ReplyDeleteDiane, now I will visit the other blogs to get a feel for each of the guests you named. I think each of us who have actually met face-to-face a blogger friend has this joyous feeling. It seems as if we have been friends forever and finally meeting for real!
ReplyDeleteI had un apero at my apartment in Paris last April and had nine bloggers join me. We even had a blogger from Australia (Julie) who was in Paris for about a month. It was a fabulous time together!
Bises,
Genie
It was great meeting you and Nigel and all our other blog friends. It's great to see all these photos on different blogs. I'll be posting about the party presently when I've sorted out all my photos. Martine thanks for having the idea and thanks to Susan it materialised. It was the highlight of our week as well. The dish washer was wonderful, you had nothing to worry about leaving us to clear up :-) Keep well Diane

ReplyDeleteMarjie we were lucky with the weather, it has been foul recently but this was a warm and sunny day. The offer of an overnight bed made all the difference as we could have a drink and relax. Great day. Diane
ReplyDeleteWhat a great time you all had. The photos are great and the food looks amazing. It's a great idea to share the cooking, plus, that way you get to try new things.
ReplyDeleteKerry we used to always have parties like that in S.Africa. We would have regular get togethers at different peoples houses, but we would vary each time in what dish we would take. It made it more interesting, made it easier for the host and we could have lots more parties :) We had a great time at Susan and Simon's home. Diane
ReplyDeleteWow, so nice to meet everybody.:-) Hugs Stina
ReplyDeleteWe do the same thing with my family. On a rotation basis, we take it in turns to be the host and the host chooses the theme and cooks the main course for the evening. The other 3 couples, depending on their turn, cook either the starter, accompaniments or the dessert. We've been doing this for years now and it's great fun x
ReplyDeleteLilla it was very special meeting everyone, we had a great day. Stay well Diane
ReplyDeleteKerry I only wish I had a family to do that with! We had a group of people also in S.A who were F1 enthusiasts. We would meet on the Sundays that there were races, and which ever country the race was at that was the theme for the day for the food. Great fun. Diane
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun time to meet all of these bloggers. So nice of Sandy to get it all together.
ReplyDeleteBecca it was actually Susan who put it all together and she did a great job. Hope all is well with you, take care Diane
ReplyDeleteWow, that is nice way to meet up blogging friends! Love all the photos.
ReplyDeletechubskulit it was a fantastic way to meet other bloggers, if you can get enough together in one place I highly recommend it. Tale care Diane
