More Sun - Part 36

Yesterday saw a little of my energy expended in the garden - seeds were planted for chard, cucumber and courgettes (zucchini). I also made the discovery that the rabbits have been eating our asparagus. The already active search for suitable wire netting has now been intensified!!

We had French neighbours around for aperitifs in the evening and by the time we all said good night, we had eaten enough snacks to render dinner unnecessary!  They kindly brought us around a rabbit, (the comment that went with it was that it was ready for cooking and it had no clothes!) and it will be cooked for dinner this evening. (Perhaps it is already asparagus flavoured!)  I wonder how many of you out there are saying ‘yuk’, at the prospect of eating rabbit.  It is a very popular dish in France and readily available in all supermarkets.  For my recipe of Rabbit Chasseur see HERE.

Today the sun is shining, but there is a bitterly cold northerly wind blowing strongly. Having had a look around the garden I see there are a few weeds popping up in the lawn. They all look so bright and cheery, but that really do not belong in the site they have chosen!!

There are also a few active small red and black  beetles in the garden which I have identified as the Firebug, Pyrrhocoris apterus.

The markings remind me of very attractive masks.

  1. I know they are weeds but I just love English daisies and childhood would not be the same without dandelions. I hope you are having a leisurely Sunday. Blessings...Mary

  2. LOL!! SO DID it taste like asparagus? :) Rabbits can be a bit of a problem when you are trying to grow something, but they are so cute!! LOL!!

You worked hard enough during the week so it is good you relaxed a bit over the weekend.

  3. Hi Mary, also love the daisies but the mower chops off their heads I am afraid. It also zapped off the dandelions but that may be a good thing as if they go to seed I would have them in the veg garden as well. Have a good day.

  4. Hi Joan, No I did not detect the taste of aspapragus (lol) but it was delicious. We have plenty left for tonight as well. Diane

  5. We saw lots of those little beetles last week in LGP. Thank you for identifying them for me !

Our little maison is sans internet (and most other things we take for granted at home) so now we are back I can catch up on your blog.

  6. Jean, Glad that my identification has helped. They are supposed to be very common but it took me some time to identify them! I still have a lot of catching up to do on your blog. I try to read a couple a day so that I will get there eventually. Unfortunately there is a lot to do at the moment getting the garden all planted out etc!!!
